We have three general programs, with activities designed for children of different ages:

**Note that Springhill's teacher, Debra Wingrove, will not be teaching Monday afternoon sessions as she uses that time for curriculum planning and development. Dawn Eagles will take her place on Monday afternoons. Dawn will also be supported by our full-time Teaching Partner, Abby. Please refer to the staff page for more information on our teaching professionals.

As Springhill employs both a highly qualified Teacher and a Teaching Partner, there are no "duty days" for parents.

Registrations are accepted throughout the school year, and part-time registrations will be considered (i.e. children do not have to register for all days of a program).  Children in the 2-year-old and 3-year-old classes can move up to the next age-level class during the year, if desired (space permitting).  However, students must meet minimum age requirements to register during the school year or to move up to the next age-level class.  These requirements are as follows: 

• For new students wishing to start in the 2- year-old class during the school year, they must be 2 years-old by January 15, 2005 and by the time they start classes.
• For new students wishing to start in the 3-year-old class during the school year, or students in the 2-year-old class wishing to move up to the 3-year-old class, they must be 3 years-old by January 15, 2005 and by the time they start classes (or by October 31, 2004, whichever is later).
• For new students wishing to start in the 4/5-year-old class during the school year, or students in the 3-year-old class wishing to move up to the 4/5-year-old class, they must be 4 years-old by January 15, 2005.

Classes for each group follow a basic routine, with occasional variations.  During a class, each group will usually have some free play in the classroom's activity centres, circle time (where the children are introduced to letters, numbers and literature), a snack, a musical activity or group game activity, and - weather permitting - a play outside. 

While the program is well thought out, the activities are not highly structured; a child may exercise a degree of choice and may tackle an activity in a way that best suits him or her. 

We also have a variety of themes throughout the school year, such as the changing seasons, colours, life-cycles, celebrations around the world, dinosaurs, castles and dragons, hospitals, etc.

Parent Participation:

Parents are welcome to join us in the classroom at any time.  Special events and presentations are scheduled throughout the school year, and parents will receive invitations to these events.  We also welcome parents to share any expertise that they may have with the class when we are working on an appropriate theme (e.g. musical skills, related occupations, etc.).  Please note, however, that non-registered siblings are not normally permitted in the classroom.  (Exceptions are made for babies under six months of age in their parents arms, or in a car seat.)

Fieldtrips:

In addition to the variety of activities and themes in our regular classes, Springhill children also experience some wonderful fieldtrips: Muttart Conservatory, The Provincial Museum, Stage Polaris, John Janzen Nature Centre, Rutherford House, Valley Zoo, Millennium Place Recreation Centre, the Space and Science Centre, to name a few.
