Springhill's regular school year follows the Edmonton Public School calendar and
runs from the beginning of September until the end of June.
Springhill has three general preschool programs, with activities designed for children of different ages:
Registrations are accepted throughout the school year, and part-time registrations will be considered (i.e. children do not have to register for all days of a program).
Activities
Classes for each group follow a basic routine, with occasional variations. During a class, each group will usually have some free play in the classroom's activity centres, circle time (where the children are introduced to letters, numbers and literature), a snack, a musical activity or group game activity, and - weather permitting - a play outside.
While the program is well thought out, the activities are not highly structured; a child may exercise a degree of choice and may tackle an activity in a way that best suits him or her.
We also have a variety of themes throughout the school year that captures the
interest of early childhood children. Past activities have included changing seasons, colours, life-cycles, celebrations around the world, dinosaurs, space and pets.
Three and Four Split Class
We now have a three four split class on Tuesdays the three year old children must be three on or before September 1st and must be daytime toilet trained. This is a new class and it is an experiment day where the kids get to make fun science projects with the teachers ie: making airplanes and seeing how far they will fly, baking a vinegar and baking soda chocolate cake to see what happens... This class lets the fours help out the threes and the threes learn to interact with the bigger kids and they love it. This is a great way for both children to learn to interact with different levels of children and have fun playing with science!!
Music Program
The goal of the program is to present high quality live musical experiences for children. Learn more about the music program here.
Organic Snack Program
Springhill cares as much about your child's healthy diet as you do. Learn more about the organic snack program here.
Parent Participation
Parents are welcome to join us in the classroom at any time. Special events and
presentations are scheduled throughout the school year, and parents will receive
invitations to these events. We also welcome parents to share any expertise that
they may have with the class when we are working on an appropriate theme (e.g.
musical skills, related occupations, etc.).
Field Trips
In addition to the variety of activities and themes in our regular classes, Springhill children also experience some wonderful fieldtrips: Muttart Conservatory, The Provincial Museum, Stage Polaris, John Janzen Nature Centre, Rutherford House, Valley Zoo, Millennium Place Recreation Centre, the Telus World of Science, to name a few.
Unlike many other preschools, all field trip fees at Springhill are included in
the tuition so no additional funds need to be paid.
